Heatherdowns Country Club Wedding in Toledo, Ohio

Aisha & John
This fall, I was blessed to spend a special day with Aisha and John … one of the kindest (and most surprising ☺️) couples on Earth. Let me tell you a little bit about their love story, their personalities, and their gorgeous Heatherdowns Country Club Wedding in Toledo, Ohio.
Aisha and John met while working in the same building at Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio. At the time, she was a special education teacher, and he was the Assistant Principal. Their love of sports brought them together while Aisha was coaching softball and basketball, and John was the Athletic Director. As fate would have it, the couple connected further at a mutual coworker’s wedding, and love soon followed. As the story is told, the long-awaited proposal happened several years later on a fateful Thursday night at their home.
Like many couples who planned weddings in 2020, Aisha and John’s original wedding plans were postponed. There were some new guidelines in place for their celebration, but the indoor reception hall Heatherdowns Country Club wedding in Toledo, Ohio ceremony went off without a hitch. Their friend presided, and another friend shared his gift of music.
This couple is about as gracious, accepting, and positive as they come. The couple celebrated their day with lots of hugs, high-fives, and fist pumps. I could talk with Aisha for hours. She is so easy-going and has a calming presence about her … attributes which are probably very comforting in her career as a therapist. John is equally as kind and has a gentle, yet fun-loving spirit.
One thing about this couple that surprised me … their love of rap music. 🎵 In fact, their DJ had requested a list of favorite songs they would like played at their reception … and it was comprised of nearly ALL rap music! Having grown up in an era when some of their favorites were recorded, I loved it!
Another surprising element to their wedding day: John’s Best Man was his former teacher! Ted … a.k.a. Mr. Jobe … had the groom in class year ago. Eventually, they became colleagues. After several years of teaching together, they had developed a friendship and had come to confide in one another. When John and Aisha finally became engaged, Ted told him, “It was about time.” ☺️
Their family was very much at the forefront of Aisha and John’s celebration. Although his father could not be there in person, he was there in spirit, and their guests offered a special toast toast in remembrance of him.
Also in line with the family spirit, Aisha invited her cousin, Jenna Rankin, to be her Matron of Honor. Jenna shared stories from their childhood … including when the two would dress alike and pretend they were twins. As they’ve grown older, one is a blonde, and one is a brunette … so I think that would be harder to pull off. But, the two remain as close as they can get! 👯♀️
Aisha and John, it was my great honor to capture all the moments of your special day. Your celebration was absolutely lovely … but even more full of love and smiles. I wish you all the best in your marriage. In the words of Tupac … “Keep your mind in a positive state and stay real.” 💗
