Gideon Owen Wine Company Spring Wedding
May 21, 2022
Eight years. Their love story began more than eight years before their Gideon Owen Wine Company spring wedding in Catawba Island, Ohio. I think Mackenzie and Geoff would both agree that it was more than worth the wait. 🤍
Geoff and Mackenzie first met at a Halloween party at the University of Dayton in 2013. It was a quick introduction, but a memorable one. A month later, Geoff invited a mutual friend and one of Mackenzie’s college roommates to be his platonic plus-one to the fraternity’s semi-formal. While the night ended early, Geoff was re-introduced to Mackenzie at the friend’s apartment and they spent the evening talking getting to know one another.
Mackenzie was involved with an event called Christmas on Campus, where everyone at UD was involved in some way. She volunteered to play the role of Mrs. Claus, but needed to find a Santa! Geoff was the perfect fit. The two officially kicked-off the Christmas on Campus evening by riding in through campus on a snow covered sleigh as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Finally, in March 2014, the couple became official (on the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day in true UD fashion), and the rest is history!
Many years later, Geoff and Mackenzie visited Kelleys Island for a long Fourth of July weekend. Geoff asked Mackenzie to take a walk on one of his favorite trails. The trail on the north side of the island is typically a quiet one, and he was planning to take Mackenzie out on the rock shelf to enjoy the views and pop the question. 💍 He would tell you he had the proposal spot picked out before he even knew when he would ask. ☺️ Climbing down on the rocks, there were unexpected six-foot swells leftover from the nor’easter that passed through the day before. Luckily, Mackenzie found the perfect rock to stand on to watch the waves, check out Put-in-Bay, and Kelleys Island State Park. Geoff pointed out a sailboat to the right, and when Mackenzie turned back after taking a look, he was down on one knee. After many tears (all Mackenzie’s), she said yes!
Their Gideon Owen Wine Company spring wedding in May 2022 had an elegant flair at the historic winery. Hues of dusty blue were accented by lovely greens and white florals from Corso’s Flower and Garden Center. After a lovely wine cellar ceremony officiated by the Matron of Honor and a champagne toast, the party continued into the evening. Decor designed by Simply Yours was dramatic with black table linens accented by sequined blue table runners.
Although the forecast showed rain for most of the day, Mackenzie and Geoff were given the gift of LOVELY weather for their family and bridal party portraits on the grounds until everyone headed inside for the celebration! The party atmosphere was alive thanks to Michael with Decorative Sound, all documented by Brian at Fordham Footage for the couple to watch and relive for years to come!
