Catawba Island Wedding at Gideon Owen Wine Company
September 10, 2022
Lindsay and Ryan’s Catawba Island wedding at Gideon Owen Wine Company was so uniquely intentional. With the help of their wedding planner, they brought together their vision of an an experience that touched on all of the human senses.
Lindsay and Ryan’s love story started when they met at Miami University, Ohio. At Miami University, nearly 13% of alumni create a “Miami Merger” … two Miami graduates who eventually marry. Ryan played college hockey, and Lindsay supported him as he continued into his professional hockey career. After many years of long distance courting, Lindsay and Ryan would settle in Chicago, Illinois and would begin planning for their dream wedding.
Lindsay, originally from Northwest Ohio, desired to have a wedding close to her family near her hometown. Known for its breathtaking Lake Erie shoreline, the couple sought a venue in Catawba Island, Ohio. The historic Gideon Owen Wine Company was recently renovated and offered the perfect, unique space for their guests. The European inspired wine cellar surrounded in classic stone offered a romantic ambiance for their indoor ceremony.
Lindsay and Ryan out to create an environment that touched on the five human senses and would leave people with specific feelings to always remember the day. They wanted to use ethereal tones and textures with a touch of romance … as if guests stepped out into an Italian vineyard. The couple described their wedding style as “relaxed luxury.”
The couple’s vision was brought to life by planners from Elite Events. The couple expressed a desire for guests to feel like they did when they would step into their home … welcome, safe, loved, and cared for. Magers Design highlighted the unique features of the wine cellar with intentional uplighting and large brass chandeliers. Wooden farmhouse tables and bistro chairs in the ballroom were mixed with feathery, sparkling table linens for a breathtaking combination of textures. Florals were designed by GardenView Flowers and were inspired by the subtle, rich tones of the fall season. Eucalyptus was freshly harvested from the florist’s private farm and enhanced the sense of smell throughout the wedding venue.
The bride’s everyday style is simple, timeless, and classy. Her slim-fitting gown was paired with classic pearl accessories – including her earrings, hair piece, shoes, and chapel length veil. The groom’s look was unique, playing off the colors of the fall season. His custom sage green linen suit was matched for the groomsmen who wore a chestnut brown loafer and white button down shirt. The suit was worn sans tie for a simple, crisp, and relaxed look.
After the touching ceremony, guests were entertained by a live magician during cocktail hour, followed by dinner, special toasts, and dancing to a mix of recorded and live music by Christopher London DJ Service. The bride surprised everyone with an outfit change … inspired by fun and relaxation with the coolest white jumpsuit!
Lindsay and Ryan are some of the kindest, fun-loving people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Much has happened since their wedding day … making these images so special. It was truly an honor to capture the organic moments from their Catawba Island wedding at Gideon Owen Wine Company. 🤍🤍
